About the Studio
We're a small yoga studio located in Ferndale, Washington. Shawna founded Firmana with the goal of offering Hatha and Yin classes for students who want a personal and grounded practice. Our classes are kept small on purpose so we can really support you and adapt poses to your unique body, energy, and experience level.
Our approach is rooted in traditional Hatha and the deep stillness of Yin. We focus on mindful movement, functional alignment, and healing rest. We welcome those of all experience levels, from curious beginners to seasoned yogis. If you're looking for a slower and more attentive space to practice, please stop by Firmana Yoga and see what we're all about.
The name Firmana is a blend of "fir" and "Nirmana." The studio's home was originally the hall of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, built in 1890. The building still features much of its original Douglas fir. Nirmana is a Sanskrit term meaning creation and structure, and represents the process of bringing something into form — whether a shape, a figure, or a building.
Our Vision
In the spirit of the building's original purpose, Firmana is dedicated to being an inclusive and welcoming place for all. We want to nurture genuine community in Ferndale that values presence and relationships over performance and branding. Whether you're feeling scattered, inspired, or determined, you are invited to come exactly as you are. Join us, roll out your mat, and reconnect with the firm ground of your own being.
We offer a free monthly community drop-in class and a monthly donation class that supports a variety of local organizations. Come practice with us at Firmana Yoga and make this little studio your home for steadiness, softening, and real rest.
About Shawna
Hi, I'm the heart and founder of Firmana Yoga. I've wanted to start a community focused yoga studio for over a decade now, and I’m so excited to finally have the opportunity to do so. For now, it's just me guiding each class, but I have dreams of slow and organic growth.
I'm an RYT-500 certified teacher, and completed my foundational training with SOYA (South Okanagan Yoga Academy). After that, I focused on working to deepen my studies in Yin, and now have more than 10 years of dedicated personal practice.
My teaching reflects a steady and intuitive approach rooted in traditional yoga wisdom. Grounded in Sanskrit philosophy and SOYA's teachings, I emphasize presence and gentle self-inquiry over perfection. I aim to meet every student exactly where they are.
My Classes
I offer both Hatha and Yin classes. Hatha emphasizes mindful movement and flow to build strength, balance, and awareness of breath. Yin focuses on meditative stillness to create space for alignment, inner release, and nervous system support.
Whether you’re unrolling your mat for the first time or returning to your practice for deeper connection, Firmana Yoga offers a welcoming place in Ferndale for grounding, growth, and rest.
